Introduction

All colleges listed below have an active career placement office and most provide internships and/or cooperative education programs.
Most colleges offer both day and evening programs.
Course credits in accredited community colleges in Florida are transferable to the state's universities.

Most of the following schools are within a 30 mile radius of downtown Orlando.

The University of Central Florida - UCF

UCF is one of the nine Florida State Universities. Founded in 1963 to meet the educational needs of Florida residents through a variety of instructional, research and service programs. Situated on 1,227 acres of land in the southeast corridor of Metro Orlando, it is about 13 miles east of downtown Orlando. UCF began operating in 1968. Its' facilities include a major library, classroom buildings, laboratories for teaching and research, residence halls and student facilities. Approximately 23,200 students receive instruction form 800 faculty members (most with doctorate degrees). UCF has area campuses in South Orlando, Cocoa and Daytona Beach.

UCF is a comprehensive, urban university emphasizing quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, basic and applied research, and public service. A broad range of teaching and research programs have been developed. Additional growth at the upper division and graduate levels is anticipated through the end of the century. UCF maintains a regional mark as Central Florida's metropolitan university, while seeking out and achieving national recognition in selected academic programs and areas of research.

There are five degree granting colleges: Arts and Sciences; Business Administration; Education; Engineering; and Health and Public Affairs.

Four year baccalaureate curricula are offered in virtually all undergraduate disciplines appropriate to these colleges. There are 46 master's degree programs offered primarily in the professional schools, natural sciences and social sciences. Doctoral programs are offered in computer science, engineering, business administration, education, human factors psychology and physics.

UCF is a Division I NCAA school and participates in all inter-collegiate Sports/Recreation. There are about 100 organizations that students may join including the student symphony orchestra, the jazz band or choir.

Central Florida Research Park

The research park is adjacent to UCF, and is a joint effort of Orange County and UCF. It is considered by many to be one of the top 10 science parks in the world.

The park provides an environment for business to maximize the benefits of a university relationship. The benefits include sponsored research, technology transfer and assistance with training programs and marketing activities.

Situated on approximately 1,027 acres of land contiguous to UCF, the park employs some 4,000 people from over 70 companies.

A direct, limited-access road provides direct expressway access to downtown Orlando (15 minutes) and to Orlando International Airport (22 minutes).

Currently, there are 839 acres developed, and twenty buildings completed(1.2 million square feet). The park has development approval for over 6.5 million square feet of office, industrial and commercial support buildings, and a total of 700 hotel rooms. In 1993, Florida Hospital's Walt Disney Memorial Cancer Institute purchased a building in the park to house its cancer research facility.

Rollins College

The oldest recognized college in Florida, Rollins was founded in 1885. Accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges since 1927, it is within walking distance of beautiful and picturesque Winter Park. Rollins is a four-year, nonsectarian, independent, comprehensive college rooted in the liberal arts tradition. It has five divisions including traditional undergraduate, graduate business, and continuing education programs with a full-time equivalent enrollment of more than 2,600. There are about 550 faculty and staff members.

Rollins is consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's Best Colleges. It's alumni include Rhodes Scholars, Fulbright Scholars, Truman Scholars and a Nobel Prize winner.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers 28 majors and a variety of interdisciplinary programs. Special programs include the honors program, Community of Learners, Science Community Year, Winter Term and a variety of international study opportunities.

The Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business offers a master's of business administration degree, a bachelor of arts, and master's of liberal studies degrees. It has a MBA program that is applications-oriented and taught by the case method of instruction. It is structured so that busy managers may remain employed while pursuing master's degrees.

There is an evening program at the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins. It offers associate and baccalaureate degrees, and master's of liberal studies degrees. The Holt school provides an ideal solution to many employees seeking continuing education.

Rollins has a Brevard county campus in Rockledge, Florida. It offers day and evening courses leading to associate and baccalaureate degrees as well as teacher certification. Graduate courses are offered in education and counseling.

Rollins Center for Lifelong Education has seminars, workshops, study tours and other not-for-credit courses for those seeking professional development, liberal arts-type programs and courses and activities for personal achievement.

Rollins is a NCAA Division II school participating in 15 athletic Sports/Recreation, including baseball, soccer and basketball. Participants have won NCAA titles in tennis, golf, crew and water-skiing. There is an intramural program in which 50% of students are enrolled. There are some 20 organizations to get involved in: fraternities, sororities, drama clubs, student government, the newspaper or radio station etc.

Orlando College

Founded in 1953, the college is located just north of Orlando, in the Orlando Executive Park. Orlando College is accredited as a Senior College of Business by the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools.

The academic programs offered include: Master's of business administration degree; Master's of public administration degree; bachelor's of science degrees (with various majors); bachelor's of business administration degree; associate of business degree; and associate in science degrees (with various majors). There are a number of certificate and diploma programs ranging from 12 to 62 weeks. These programs prepare students for fields as health care and secretarial.

Florida Southern College

A private Methodist liberal arts college located in Lakeland, Florida, and founded in 1883. Florida Southern is accredited by Association of Colleges and Schools.

Florida Southern offers an undergraduate program in business administration with six choices of major; a bachelor's of science degree in accounting along with the CPA required classes; a bachelor's of science degree in nursing. The Orlando program, which has the same accreditation as the Lakeland campus, is an evening program offering classes for people who are returning to complete their degree requirements or who can only attend classes in the evening. The Orlando program offers bachelor's of science degrees only.

There are over 100 acres, and 60 structures on the main campus in Lakeland. Many of the buildings on the Lakeland campus were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Degrees are offered in 26 areas on the main campus.

Stetson University

A Baptist College founded in 1883, located on 100 acres in downtown Deland, 40 miles north of Orlando. Stetson is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, The American Bar Association, and the National Association of Schools of Music. Liberal Arts, Music, and Business degrees are offered. In the College of Arts and Sciences, you can earn a bachelor's degree in : Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, math, Computer Science, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Physical Education.

Bachelor of Business Administration can be earned in Accounting, Economics, marketing, Management and General Business. Graduate degrees are awarded in the Arts & Sciences, Education and Arts in Teaching.

Webster University

A fully accredited university with campuses throughout the United States and Western Europe, Webster has two facilities in Greater Orlando. One is in downtown Orlando in Orange County, and the other is in Altamonte Springs in Seminole County.

Founded in 1915 in St. Louis, Webster is dedicated to providing people with opportunities to receive degrees ( graduate and undergraduate) in business, management, computer science and a myriad of other professional areas. Webster is accredited by the North Central Assn.(NCA), one of five regional accrediting institutions in the country.

All classes are offered in the evening at both locations. Webster operates on a compressed semester basis. Students attend classes for four hours one night a week for nine weeks. This is equivalent to one semester. This results in five semesters in each Annual Events year which helps accelerate their degree program.
